U.S. Women's National Team soccer legendMia Hamm will appear at IMG Academy on behalf of the Army National Guard at the 2012 Super Y-League North American Finals, assisting with the distribution of a limited edition Super Y-League North American Finals/Army National Guard medal to all players. Hamm will appear at the Super Y-League North American Finals on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Hamm is widely recognized as the world's best all-around women's soccer player. She was the youngest player ever to play for the U.S. National Team (age 15) and retired in 2004 after 17 years, two world championships, and two Olympic Gold medals. Her records in appearances and goals, MVP awards and overall performance put her at the top of the sport.
The 2012 Super Y-League North American Finals kick off on Friday morning at IMG Academy in with 130 teams set to compete for 12 championships. Group play begins on Friday at 8:00 a.m., with the tournament's championship games being held on Tuesday morning, December 11. Among the teams returning to defend their titles are the TSF Academy U17 Boys team, who open the tournament against regional rival Ironbound SC. The Atlanta Fire's U14 Girls will also try for back-to-back titles, with their defense beginning against Force Football Club.
