The lacrosse goalie camp at the IMG Academy is designed for the experienced goalie as well as the newcomer to the position. Led by experienced IMG coaches who have played and taught the position at the highest collegiate, international and professional levels, the specialty camp is structured as an intensive immersion experience that will solidify each player’s fundamental technique and approach to the position while creating instinctive habits, reactions, and responses that will withstand the speed, intensity and chaotic uncertainty often associated with high-level competition.
Every facet of the position will be explored, covered, taught, and critiqued. Starting with the most basic fundamentals of communication, stick control, stance and positioning, players are repetitively drilled in the proper movements and reactions essential to thwarting every conceivable offensive shooting threat such as change-of-plane shots, low-high bounce shots, step-down shots, on-the-run shots, diving shots, and fakes. Hand and foot speed is emphasized, and hand-eye coordination is refined through innovative vision training provided by IMG’s world-renowned Athletic Performance Institute. Players also receive intensive instruction in those key out-of-the-cage throwing, outlet passing, and clearing techniques that define the superior goaltender.
The IMG Academy Goalie Camp is offered as a one-week or two-week immersion program and integrates extensive athletic training designed to strengthen athleticism and energize speed to create explosive movements and reactions that are considered the hallmark of the high-profile collegiate goalie. Video analysis is used as an instructional tool to extensively break-down technique in both real-time and slow-motion review. Under the direction of the coaching staff, players are encouraged to participate in the video analysis and critique of each other’s performance. Finally, of special note, the IMG Academy Goalie Camp is the only goalie school in the country that introduces each player to the unique but highly-beneficial indoor (box) lacrosse goalie position, allowing them to play under conditions associated with the box game - wearing NLL-certified box goalie equipment - while experiencing the developmental opportunities and benefits of the goalie position from a different perspective.
