It’s been called “The World’s Toughest Job Interview.” For seven days at the NFL Combine (Feb. 20-26), college football’s best will be measured, interviewed, tested, watched and analyzed by countless NFL coaches, general managers and scouts prior to the NFL Draft. To prepare, more than three-dozen top prospects traveled to IMG Academy for six-plus weeks of position-specific skill-work, speed and movement, physical and mental conditioning, communications and leadership training, nutrition, vision training, sports medicine and more with world-renowned coaches and trainers.
Hailing from Wake Forest University, Tommy Bohanon is a no-nonsense kind of guy. After having his most productive year in 2012, the hard-nosed fullback is ready to accomplish the goal he set at five-years-old – to put on an NFL jersey and play. Yet under his 245 lb.-frame of pure muscle, is a man full of compassion for the underprivileged. We talked about that compassion, what it’s like being a fullback, and about a couple of unreal YouTube videos.

…being from nearby Fort Myers, Fla.
Yep, small town, went to North Fort Myers High School. IMG Academy wasn’t too into football when I was in high school so I hadn’t heard about it until my agent, who is an advocate of IMG Academy, told me about it and I started researching it and other training facilities.
…on the mindset of a fullback
You have to have the mindset that you can do anything. You know you’re going to be asked to take on a linebacker, a defensive end, catch the ball, and run the ball a little bit. You have to have that smash-mouth mentality to be able to do anything it takes to get your job done.
…on the players he looks up to
Growing up I looked up to Mike Alstott a lot. Being from Florida, he was basically Tampa Bay’s entire offense for a little bit. I try to do some of the same things he does.
…on the NFL and the Scouting Combine
Playing in the NFL has been my dream since I was 5 years old. I just can’t wait to get there. It’s been a long road, and a lot of work. Once I put that first NFL jersey on, that’s going to be awesome because it’s something I’ve looked forward to my entire life. Being here [at IMG Academy] has definitely improved everything. I’m more fit, getting faster, and doing the drills better. The approach they take here prepares you for anything and everything at the Combine.
…on his passion for helping kids
Setting up a foundation would definitely be something I want to do. My grandma worked with handicapped people, so it was put in my mind at a young age. It’s been something I’ve always wanted to do. I want to set something up to help kids have opportunities they normally wouldn’t have. Also, my high school football coach was a special education teacher, and I helped him out with the kids. It’s been a passion of mine for a long time.
…on his weightlifting videos on YouTube
That was a while ago. That was sophomore year. It was a different type of training – to get as strong as possible. But I learned that’s not actually what helps with football. Now I try to move as fast as possible. That’s what they teach here. You don’t have to max weight. You need to move weight fast.

…highlights of training at IMG Academy
The whole experience. You have one of the best track coaches in the world with Coach Seagrave and he is taking time with all of us, doing personal film sessions and things like that. It helps out a lot. He changes the way you run, and move, and it’s already shown on the field for me.
