The season is still young, and the IMG Academy Boys Basketball program is putting up impressive results early in the season.
Leading the way are the Post-graduate Blue team, which improved to 6-1 on the season after going on the road to Elev8 Academy. The post-grads rolled to a 66-47 victory over the Eagles, led by Turkey's Kerem Kanter who put up an impressive 19 points and 11 rebounds. He was joined by Angel Rivera, who added 17 points and five assists, and in his debut, Chris McCullough put up 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks off the bench. With the win, the Post-grad Blue Team improved to 6-1 on the season, and will travel north to New Jersey to take on Notre Dame prep in the Brewster Invitational in New Jersey, Dec. 13-14.
Meanwhile, the Varsity Blue team has been taking it to many of the nation's top programs, but fell to 4-3 on the year after a hard fought battle with the 10-1 overall Oldsmar Christian out of Tampa, falling 63-60. Junior forward Dwayne Bacon led the Ascenders with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists. He was joined by Tysean Powell who added 19 points of his own and 10 rebounds. Notably, 7-foot-1 center Satnam Singh made his season debut off the bench and quickly made an impact, putting up 15 points and 12 rebounds in his first action of the year. The team also received a spark on defense from guard Jordan Forehand. The Varsity Blue team's three losses of the year have been close, and coming against some of the nation's elite programs. Altoghether, the team's three losses have come by a combined 11 points to the likes of perennially nationally ranked teams, Lalumiere and Midwest Prep. The Varsity Blue team will play their first home game of the season at the IMG Academy gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 12.
