After playing golf at Duke University, Olson made his PGA Tour debut in 2004. He was a PGA Tour rookie in 2009 after earning his tour card at the 2008 Qualifying School, finishing T18. Olson also competed in three Nationwide Tour events in 2008.
Olson had an accomplished junior career as well. He was an AJGA 2nd Team All-American in 1997, after being an AJGA Honorable Mention All-American in 1996. As part of his 1996 season Olson became the youngest ever winner at the AJGA Ashworth/Golfweek Championship.
