BRADENTON, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2025) – IMG Academy Foundation, the official nonprofit of IMG Academy, will serve for the third consecutive year as an apprenticeship site for the International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP), which is offered in partnership between the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the University of Delaware. Over the past several years, the Foundation has welcomed coaches from around the world to IMG Academy’s campus in Bradenton, Fla., fostering a collaborative environment focused on growth, learning, and global exchange.
As a global leader in sports education, IMG Academy, together with the IMG Academy Foundation, continues to enhance the ICECP experience, providing visiting coaches with a one-week hands-on opportunity to learn from its world-class staff and leaders as part of the twelve-month ICECP program. This ongoing partnership not only strengthens international coaching development but also broadens access to sports education well beyond student-athletes.
“We are always excited to send our coaches to IMG Academy,” said Dr. Matthew Robinson, Director of ICECP and Professor of Sport Management at the University of Delaware. “The apprenticeship offers coaches to learn more about sport in the United States and compare what they do in their home countries to what their US counterparts do. The coaches leave their on-site apprenticeship at IMG Academy with extensive knowledge and insight into their specific sport. Working with the IMG Academy Foundation to support our program and coaches to provide them the best tools and resources to learn and grow from allows them to confidently transition their learnings to their own coaching.”
Coaches from around the world are selected for the program through a competitive application process that involves input from the University of Delaware, National Olympic Committees of participants, international sport federations, and the USOPC. Those selected received a scholarship from the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity fund to participate in the program. After participating in a six-month online program and a 10-day residential program, where sessions are offered by USOPC staff and industry experts, the participants travel to IMG Academy, where they engage in a comprehensive schedule that includes hands-on learning with sport-specific coaching staff, as well as opportunities to connect with leaders across athletic performance and personal development. Through this immersive experience, coaches are introduced to methodologies and techniques designed to develop the whole student-athlete, reflecting the holistic approach that makes IMG Academy one of the top sports education institutions in the United States.
“The IMG Academy Foundation is proud to support a global organization that provides learning opportunities to individuals across the world,” said Kate Massey, Executive Director IMG Academy Foundation. “As one of the pillars of the foundation, opportunity is our chance to give back with the resources we have on campus and access to the same state of the art facilities and coaches that helped develop professional athletes. Working with the ICECP coaches has been a highlight of our giveback initiatives.”
Since the start of the collaboration, IMG Academy has hosted more than 15 coaches through the ICECP, representing over 10 countries. As one of the most internationally diverse campuses in the country, IMG Academy has seen this collaboration further enrich its global culture and community. With 11 sports programs offered on campus, the apprenticeship experience has spanned multiple disciplines, with coaches specializing in basketball, volleyball, golf, and tennis gaining hands-on learning from IMG Academy’s expert staff and immersive training environment.
“The on-site apprenticeship is a key part of the ICECP,” said Michelle Hortado, Global Engagement and Government Affairs, USOPC. “IMG Academy has seamlessly provided our coaches with the curriculum they need to be successful once they complete the entire program. We are excited to grow this collaboration for years to come.”
The collaboration between the ICECP and the IMG Academy Foundation fosters global connections in the athletic community, strengthening relationships with international sports organizations and supporting the exchange of knowledge across borders. Visiting coaches gain valuable insight into IMG Academy’s holistic approach to student-athlete development, an experience they can adapt and apply within their own communities to elevate coaching and athlete support worldwide.
