If you want to excel in any sport, you have to put in the work. It’s not just about having skill or speed. Having disciplined training sessions can transform a casual player into an elite athlete. When soccer student-athletes enroll at IMG Academy, they receive elevated training, including unparalleled strength and conditioning instruction
In this video, coaches Kinsey Propst and Kevin Heiberger explain what it looks like to be a student-athlete training at IMG Academy within the soccer program.
“Over the years that I’ve been here, we’ve gotten a more unified approach,” Propst explains. “The very foundational level is, where is the student-athlete when they walk in through our doors, and how do we get them just a little bit better?”
In a short span of time, Kinsey and Kevin have transformed the soccer program by training the boys and girls teams in tandem. “Holistically, if you’re wanting to develop a program, you want to have an idea, an identity,” Heiberger says. “You start to incorporate that every day and you start developing a total athlete from a physical standpoint.”
While the soccer program includes players from U13 all the way up to U19, these coaches don’t expect perfection. “If we’re looking at building up from our youngest athletes to our oldest athletes, we don’t expect our youngest athletes to be doing what our oldest athletes are doing,” Propst explains.
