MLB News: Elijah Green a Top Prospect in the 2022 MLB Draft
At the age of 13, Elijah Green gave up football to focus exclusively on baseball—a decision that his father, two-time NFL pro-bowler Eric Green, saw as a bigger challenge for his son who excelled in football. After years of hard work and determination, Elijah has paved a path toward what he hopes will be his own professional sports journey by placing himself on a very short list of top MLB draft picks.
“It was just a love for baseball for me,” Elijah explains. “The game of football took away baseball for me for half the year, so quitting football just showed my true love for baseball. It really was a tough time for me because my dad played in the NFL, but he has supported me through it all.”
As Eric watched his son grow over the years, he wasn’t surprised at Elijah's skills. “This is what he’s done all his life; my son is a worker,” Eric says. “If you really want to be good, you just can't wake up and expect to be good; you really have to work at it.”
Elijah’s hard work has clearly paid off. In his senior season at IMG Academy, Elijah hit .462 with a 1.592 OPS, with nine home runs, 32 RBIs, and 40 runs scored in 25 games. With the draft coming up this July, these impressive stats catapulted him to the top of this year’s prospects.
