Carol Binder

Carol Binder is the Director of the IMG Academy Language Center. She has been with IMG Academy since 2009. She has been involved in the field of ESL both in teaching and program leadership for about 30 years, working primarily in community and post-secondary education settings in the US and overseas. Carol has taught all language skills but especially enjoys teaching writing and pronunciation and has worked with students ranging from middle schoolers to graduate students and university professors.
 
Among the various positions she has held are ESL director at a private college in Iowa, VESOL (vocational ESL) director at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida, Visiting Professor at Jeju National University in Jeju, South Korea, Lecturer at the National University of Singapore, where she coordinated several ESL writing programs  for the Centre for English Language Communication, and ESL Director with the Center for American Education In Singapore, which offered programming through Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She also spent a semester teaching and working with faculty at the Polytechnical University in HCMC, Vietnam. Carol has been active in research and publication, most notably a writing textbook used in southeast Asia, and in language testing. While in Singapore, she completed the coursework for the PhD with a focus on curriculum development at the National Institute of Education.
 
Carol lived in Sweden when she was young and studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France and at the University of Granada in Granada, Spain. In addition to her years of living overseas, she has traveled to over 30 countries throughout North and Central America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Through her extensive experience overseas, Carol brings with her a strong background in and understanding of the challenges of living, studying and working in other countries. 
 
Carol returned to the US in 2008 with her husband, who is originally from Vietnam, and their two children to live closer to family in Sarasota. She is thrilled to have found such an international community at IMG Academy, where she feels very much at home.
