IMG Academy announced that it has named Michael Lehan as its new Head of School. As part of his duties, he will oversee, organize, and grow the infrastructure of the school’s academic programs while assisting with various aspects of the athletic program.
Coming from the world of public education, Michael Lehan earned his senior leadership role through an unconventional route. Never having served as a classroom teacher, he completed six years competing in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns when his athletic career ended and he was tapped to become a dean of students and assistant principal for the Osseo Area Schools.
The hallmark of an IMG Academy education is a robust curriculum, an abundance of learning experiences that require collaborative problem solving, and subject-specific assignments in which learners critically and creatively examine the world around them. The IMG Academy faculty forms the core of a much greater academic support team that includes parents, administrators, coaches, house parents and campus life staff members, all of whom work tirelessly to positively impact academic, athletic and character growth.
The focus of the IMG Academy curriculum is to develop critical thinking, collaboration, perseverance and communication skills through the study of traditional subject areas. The school's curriculum is designed to prepare student-athletes for the rigors of university life.
OUR CURRICULUM
*Honors sections available. Students should have earned a B or higher in their previous subject area course and receive approval from the course's teacher and an administrator.
AP courses are offered students highly motivated and capable of succeeding in college level courses as indicated by earning A or B+ in an Honors course in the previous year.
Online Courses are available to students with scheduling conflicts or sport travel demands the traditional IMG Academy program cannot accommodate. Parent/guardian and a school administrator's approval are required. All requests must be made through the Registrar.
IMG Academy’s Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides student-athletes access to personalized academic guidance and executive functioning training in areas such as goal setting and management, organization, and self-awareness. Students-athletes with identified learning differences and those who need an extra measure of learning support should consider the benefits of this service.
For more information regarding the LRC, please email our admissions team at [email protected].
For student-athletes who need extra help with classwork, an upcoming project, or a test, IMG Academy offers a variety of tutoring opportunities. The Achievement Center provides assistance during both school sessions each day and evening tutoring is offered nightly. Fee-based private tutoring sessions are also available for those who are interested.
IMG Academy has revolutionized the concept of summer school. Available to all enrolled student-athletes, the summer school program is the perfect balance of ongoing coursework with personalized sport training.
Dedicated staff in our College Planning and Placement Department educates and mentors each student-athlete and their family about college exam preparation, athletic recruiting, college admissions and NCAA compliances.
Students take a year-long, 40-hour standardized test preparatory course that begins spring semester of sophomore year and continues through fall semester of junior year. The course coincides with optimal timing for students to prepare for the tests and concludes prior to taking the SAT and ACT.
Our staff offers educational guidance, monitors academic certification, tracks recruitment activities and oversees amateurism issues so students, parents and college coaches can have full confidence that an IMG Academy graduate will have a complete understanding of the rules in place that govern eligibility to play at the next level. Learn more about the NCAA at www.ncaa.org.
Credits may be awarded to students transferring to IMG Academy from another academic institution. Official transcripts will be reviewed by the Registrar to determine eligibility, number of credits earned, and progress towards graduation.
IMG Academy offers a College Preparatory Diploma to students who successfully complete the credit requirements for graduation.
