Alex Popp comes to IMG Academy from Vermont Academy, where he served as the head coach from 2014-2020. In his time at Vermont, Popp developed seven top 100 nationally ranked players, two NBA Draft picks and one McDonald’s All-American. In addition, the program won the school’s first ever New England Prep School Championship in 2016. Notably, matriculation included Harvard, Vanderbilt, VCU, Miami, Xavier, Brown, Rice, Bucknell, William & Mary, U Chicago, Carnegie Mellon, Tufts, Colby, Texas Tech, Marquette, Louisville, Butler and many more.
Popp was previously the Director of Basketball Operations at Holy Cross (NCAA Div. I) where the Crusaders went 20-14 in 2013-2014. Prior to his time at Holy Cross, Popp worked at Middlebury College (NCAA Div. III) where he served as the associate head coach for two seasons. During that time, the Panthers advanced to the Elite Eight in 2013 and the Sweet Sixteen in 2012. Before Middlebury, he was an assistant coach with the Springfield Armor (NBA G-League), Expressions Elite (EYBL), and Springfield College (NCAA Div. III).
