The IMG Academy Bollettieri Tennis program's Naoki Nakagawa recorded a milestone this past weekend by bringing home his first singles title in a Futures event. Playing in the Mexico F13 Futures held in Veracruz, Mexico, Sept. 30 - Oct. 6, 16-year old Nakagawa had a tough road to the title. Nakagawa began the event facing an opponent 17-years his elder in Colombia's Michael Quintero, the event's No. 2 seed. Nakagawa took on the challenge and played his way into the next round, 1-6, 7-6(10), 6-3. The youngest opponent Nakagawa encountered along the way was 20-year old Luis Patina of Mexico in the second round. Nakagawa dispatched Patina, 7-5, 6-4. With his confidence high, Nakagawa kept up the intensity, knocking off 23-year olds Dean O'Brien (RSA), Cesar Ramirez (MEX) and Juan-Carlos Spir (MEX). In the final against Spir, Nakagawa put together his most dominant performance, soundly defeating his opponent, 6-3, 6-4.
