Practice makes perfect. And, for many athletes during a global pandemic, practice has been the only feasible way to continue with sport. Whether it was converting a backyard into a makeshift field, using gym equipment in a garage, or following along with virtual drills, 2020 forced athletes around the world to put competition on pause and to solely focus on their training and development.
When the WNBA announced they'd be restarting their 2020 season at IMG Academy inside the Wubble, they capitalized on the unique opportunity to practice, workout, and scrimmage against other teams within the league before the first game of the season. And, now that games have started, the teams are still practicing and training when their schedule allows.
The WNBA has had complete access to facilities that have previously been home to the 2019 GEICO High School National Champions, McDonald's All-Americans, IMG's annual NBA Combine training program, national teams, annual basketball camp programs, and more. IMG's basketball gymnasium features four state-of-the-art courts, including 24 baskets, video analysis capabilities, locker rooms, meeting spaces, and offices.
Dedicated players seeking to achieve their personal best have recognized their full potential within those walls; athletes have competed in front of dozens of college coaches on those courts; trainees have earned starting spots on their team inside that gymnasium.
And, now the WNBA has been able to successfully restart the 2020 season while keeping players, coaches, staff, and their families safe on IMG's Bradenton, Florida campus.

Gaining access to IMG's facilities, including Legacy Hotel for all-inclusive dining and accommodations, has been a game changer for the WNBA. Like many other professional leagues, the bubble concept has been widely acknowledged as a way to safely allow athletes to continue training and competing when the global situation otherwise would not allow for a 2020 season.
As the regular season continues and preparation for the playoffs and championship games begin, we look forward to continuing to be able to offer world-class facilities and accommodations throughout the entirety of the WNBA's 2020 season.
